What People Want? Look, Enjoy and Show Off Art

Helena Newman said...

'People's choices are now being driven by image rather than the artist's name. They want to look at their pieces, enjoy them and show them off,'' said Helena Newman, the vice-chairman of Sotheby's Impressionist and Modern Art department.

For most buyers, she added, the estimate price was ''just a starting point.'' [from ndtv.com]

What About Orange in Kids Room?

Orange has certainly enjoyed a renaissance the past few years and has become the go-to gender-neutral color (surpassing green and yellow) for many designers of children's decor, accessories and toys. We saw this photo at Remodelista who points it out as a perfect example of using pops of this vibrant color in an otherwise neutral room. [from ohdeedoh]

Artist Archie Rand Created The 613 A Big Mural of Torah Commandments

It's a painting of biblical proportions.

A Brooklyn artist has completed what he calls the largest free-standing painting in the world - a 1,700-square-foot depiction of the Torah's 613 commandments.

Sunset Park muralist and Brooklyn College art professor Archie Rand, whose artwork has graced the walls of the Museum of Modern Art, has turned his easel toward the Old Testament, using cartoons to depict commandments like "eat matzo on the night of Passover."

Remote Amazon Forest Indian Tribe Existence in Brazil

The pictures show tribesmen, painted red from head to toe, preparing to defend themselves with longbows against the aircraft carrying out the photography.

The images, taken by the Brazil's department for Indian affairs (Funai), reveal a number of thatched roof huts in a small clearing in the forest, in the western Amazon, close to Envira, which is not far from the border with Peru.
